Neacal shares monumental single ‘Unrest’ along with video

‘Unrest’ is the third single from Belgrade-based musician Neacal’s forthcoming debut album Stranger from Long Ago. Released on 13 September via his label Neacal Music, the single serves as the culminating point of his album, and is one of his most poignant offerings to date. ‘Unrest’ was released alongside a magnificent music video set on the Scottish shores.

The producer and singer-songwriter has been a composer for over 16 years and founded one of the most influential progressive rock groups in Eastern Europe, which gained over 5 million streams across platforms. Neacal is inspired by the likes of Agnes Obel, Woodkid and Owen Pallett, as he shares anecdotes of pivotal moments in his life relating to his mental health, trauma and internal struggles through his music.

Neacal reveals: “’Unrest’ is the culminating point of my upcoming debut album, where the emotional stakes are at their highest, and the drama peaks. Despite its sombre mood and underworld-themed imagery, this is not a song about embracing death, but about conquering it. And such victory may only come at a very high cost. For me personally this song was a harbinger of my inevitable mental meltdown, an internal collapse that had already begun by that time unbeknownst to me, and that took months to overcome.”

Neacal bravely faces the darkest parts of his being and subconscious through his music and ‘Unrest’ is one of the most powerful illustrations of this. The track begins on quite a stripped down note, with only Neacal’s voice as the focal point. It then builds up into an audaciouslydramatic soundscape, featuring iconic organ tones, striking horns and daring strings. The music video is equally as enthralling, and stirs up a vast range of emotions too. With its black and white colour grading and backdrop of desolate and abandoned buildings, nature and the ocean, it’s a masterful accompaniment to the track.
