LT recently shared her views in a devil-may-cry record titled ‘Act Your Age’. The UK-born Ausie resident has penned her thoughts on the subject of ageism, but more on that in our interview with the self-starter, which you can read below.

Having been chosen as BBC Introducing in Merseyside’s producer’s pick, LT has gone on to appear on a number of radio stations, in about as many publications (CLASH Magazine, Rolling Stone Australia to name only two), and won plenty of awards, namely three Queensland Music Awards and the Carol Lloyd Award. By the look of things, she seems to be on a mission, taking to the road for her 2023 tour (see dates below). Is there a particular story, a personal experience, behind the subject of ageism in ‘Act Your Age’?
The subject of ageism was inspired by a number of events I’ve experienced over the years of working in the music industry. From constantly being asked what your age is on showcasing applications, to the lack of radio support to mid-career artists outside of their 20s, to the double standards – why is it ok for Steve Tyler to get older and continue a career in music, but it’s not for Madonna? If it’s about ‘the music’ as we like to say, then someone’s age shouldn’t make a scrap of difference.
You have a background in creating guitar-led music. How does this flavour your pop songwriting?
I always write on the guitar and ‘Act Your Age’ is the first of my recent pop tracks that actually features an acoustic slide in the mix. It was Joel and Edwin’s idea to include the slide guitar to draw back on elements of that, and I really love how it’s turned out. It’s one of my favourite bits.
Tell us about your year so far, are there any highlights?
Everything has been pretty ‘Act Your Age’ focused up until this point, so getting to release that has been a great moment, and counting down the days until my UK trip.
Describe your latest release.
It’s a rhythmic, indie-pop track written with two other writers, Joel Quartermain and Edwin White. We wrote it in Melbourne, Australia, and it was also produced by Joel and Edwin, then mastered by Peter Holz.
What does success look like to you?
That changes from year to year. I consider being able to move through a new and challenging situation, without letting my anxiety win, to be a success. In both music life and personal life. I’m still very much working on this.
Do you allow current events to impact your creativity or do you prefer to focus on the abstract?
A bit of both really!
What does an ideal day look like to you?
My day job is working in programming at a venue in Far North Queensland, Australia called the Tanks Arts Centre, and I’m also a Mum of two, so my day generally starts extremely rushed and frantic, then once I get to work I’ll have a down of breakfast at my desk (and in peace) and start my day. I chat with agents, book local artists to support their headline touring acts, and work on a number of other showcasing opportunities. When I get home from my day, I start cooking dinner, pack for the next day, get everyone to bed and then do some music work in the evening or just crash and burn on the couch in front of Netflix.
What is the boldest thing that you have ever done?
Follow a career in music.
Describe your relationship with your fans.
I love my followers. They are from all walks of life and so supportive of my music. I always look forward to connecting with them in real life at shows.
What can we expect from you in the months to come?
I have a few shows coming up in celebration of ‘Act Your Age’, then hoping to continue writing toward my next album!
