Since February, German musician KID BE KID has been building anticipation for her new album with singles such as ‘News Feed’ and ‘Naked Times’, and now the wait is over. Established fans and new listeners alike can access the project, titled Truly A Life Goal But No Ice Cream, either by streaming it on digital platforms, or purchasing a vinyl or CD. If they would like to get a taste of what they might expect from the Fun In The Church artist’s new LP, they can stream the lead single, ‘Move’, packaged in a vibrant music video, below.
KID BE KID criticizes the fame lottery that so many people play, as one can hear in her lyrics: “You’ll have to post 5 times a week, at least 5 videos and one pic. If not, your audience won’t grow”. She delves deeper into the topic over the course of the album, weeding out the nonsense without losing the fun – an interesting balance of seriousness and playfulness that, in juxtaposition, stands out in high relief.

KID BE KID explained the album’s message: “Truly A Life Goal But No Ice Cream breaks away from the widespread dream of wanting to be like ‘Barbie and Ken’ – the constructed standard of gender and beauty, the filters through which we view ourselves and others. With this album, I’m putting a magnifying glass in your hand, made specifically for real emotion and deeper meaning. All you have to do is pick it up, and the journey into an exciting world begins.”
Full of quirk, ‘I Swear’ sees KID BE KID experiments with beats, creating grooves I have never heard before and contrasting them with more-traditional piano chords. It is as though she is audibly illustrating the process of breaking away from what is expected.
‘Get Up’ continues this idea, although it leans more heavily toward bass as its central focus sound. Moments of the ‘tradition’ (embodied by the piano) interject throughout the track, contrasting light with dark like the white dot in the black half of the yin and yang symbol, and it is symbolic just the same.
