Nova Twins {Mood Swings}

Dark princesses of punk-grime rock, Nova Twins, return with their new single ‘Mood Swings’, lifted from their forthcoming EP of the same name,  released on the 17th November.

Driven by a dark bass line and layered with apocalyptic guitar riffs, ‘Mood Swings’ re-introduces us to what Nova Twins do best – their unique brand of ‘nova sound’, that draws on a plethora of genres to create a punishing, brutal and empowering wall of sonic energy. Singing “when my mood swings round, I’m not taking it down…” as hammering drums splash and vicious guitars echo, the track continues the mean-streak of Nova Twins’ winning formula – colossal bass lines and sharp, twisted vocals – a combination as impressive as it is nuance.

Regarding the genesis of the upcoming EP and self-titled single, the band commented, “It’s a human concept; there is no face to our moods, whether it’s thrilling or ugly, we embrace it all. Because of unrealistic social pressures I think people struggle with their identity… The mind is such a complex thing and we want people to be comfortable in their skin and accept the good with the bad…You are normal.” A self-directed music video is soon to follow, emphasising the band’s DIY approach that is encapsulated in their organic music and autonomous recording/release process.

Having only released their debut EP in August 2016, the band has turned heads everywhere with their unique blend of rebellious punk-rock: NME, The Guardian (‘new band of the week’), BBC Introducing, Vive le Rock and The Quietus (‘top 5 bands at Brighton’s The Great Escape’). Touring the world extensively this last year and notably playing Afropunk Fest in both London and Paris, the band has supported an array of world class acts including, Die Antwoord, Pendulum, Little Simz and Ho99o9. Beyond musical achievements they have received countless brand endorsements from Dr Martens, Jack Daniels and were invited by AIM to give a chat on women in music for the BBC Introducing Amplified event, and played Selfridges as part of a Music Matters campaign in September.

A glimpse into the future of total genre-demolition, Nova Twins are a duo with their sights set on conquering the world – whether you like it or not. With both UK and French live dates booked this autumn, supporting super group Prophets of Rage on their new tour, and a headline show at The Camden Assembly on  30th November, the world best brace themselves for an invasion – Nova Twins are here to stay.
