Leyya {Heat}

LEYYA have shared their new single and video ‘Heat’ ahead of the release of their new album Sauna, slated for release on 26th January 2018 via Las Vegas Records. The Austrian Indie-pop duo has enjoyed immense success with their most recent single – ‘Drumsolo’ which premiered on Noisey, with the video and live video premiering on Pigeons and Planes, as well as receiving continuous support from BBC Radio 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne. ‘Zoo’ and ‘Oh Wow’ received vast support from Pigeons and Planes, V Magazine, Wonderland Magazine, Clash magazine, Complex, Konbini, The 405, Consequence of Sound, BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens and Phil Taggart, BBC 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne, Virgin Radio Playlist,  Radio 1 Playlist in Germany and Austrian FM4’s Radio Charts amongst others. LEYYA are looking forward to their performances at a string of European festivals early next year, before they head to SXSW Festival, taking their idiosyncratic sound to the USA.

Sophie Lindinger and Marco Kleebauer are the duo behind LEYYA. Their debut album Spanish Disco was an instant success, with hit single ‘Superego,’ racking up over 3 million plays on Spotify and over 560,000 Youtube views, putting the pair on the map, and inciting a whirlwind of huge festival performances and radio play, as well as television and film appearances.  Their performance at Iceland Airwaves was called one of the “most exciting” on display by Consequence of Sound, while their show at Eurosonic Nooderslag was branded “The best concert of this year’s Eurosonic Festival” by Musikexpress. Naturally, it comes as no surprise that LEYYA has laid claim to an Amadeus Music Award, and have graced the stages of a host of festivals: New York’s Indie Week, The Great Escape (Brighton, UK), Liverpool Sound City (Liverpool, UK), Tallinn Music Week (Tallinn, EE), PrimaveraSound (Barcelona, SP) and Electronic Beats at Reeperbahn Festival (Hamburg, DE) – before finally headlining Popfest (Vienna, AT) back home, where they played to a crowd of 20,000 in front of the famous Karlskirche in Vienna’s beautiful City Centre.

In true LEYYA fashion, ‘Heat’ mesmerizes with wonderfully layered and intricately constructed electronic sounds, tastefully crafted into an experimental pop song. The track is a collection of the subtle contrasts that make LEYYA such a fascinating act, complete with Sophie’s trademark breathy vocals sitting against an intricately designed soundscape. Forgive LEYYA for their refusal to fall neatly into a single comfortable musical pigeonhole, and ‘Heat’ soon becomes a magnetising musical journey.

Director Marie-Therese Hildenbrandt says about the video for ‘Heat’: “The song Heat for me has a very strong energy. We wanted to transfer that energy using the concept of a girl gang. The video itself has a tinge of an ironic undercurrent. The play with violence and weapons was used as both a critical and humorous view on female emancipation and the suspense-packed times we live in.”
