Emotive evocateur, omyügen shares new single and video, ‘Dark Corner’

Electronic eccentric omyügen’s new single and accompanying video, ‘Dark Corner’, is out now. The US-based singer-songwriter, producer, and filmmaker, omyügen (stage name of Michael X. Schallert) unveiled the new release on 3 November via his self-titled independent label. After rebranding from his previous moniker, Juse, Schallert began blending drawn-out rap hooks with smooth electronic beats and melancholic keys. Having been sponsored by the Wyoming Art Council, omyügen has also produced for rap artist Gunnr and featured on UKTalk Radio’s top 10 charts for February 2022. This brooding new track was mixed by (Sean Dorrian, and Breaking Benjamin), and mastered by Chris Athens (Drake, Kodak Black, Hollywood Undead, and Joji). ‘Dark Corner’‘s premier arrived with early support from EARMILK.

Hauntingly beautiful, ‘Dark Corner’ is a stripped-down electropop banger; emotionally charged, with a driving drumbeat. Calling to mind lo-fi emo-rap, omyügen shines on his vocal and lyrical delivery. Effortlessly turning out rap hooks as the Juno pads fizz and echo into the ether. Thematically, the track covers the tale of isolation and pain; where the artist explores anxious grapplings through a tender piano ballad that quickly breaks into a trap beat. The emotional backbone of omyügen’s new track consistently floats through the glitchy haze, even as the buzzing harmonies fade.

“My song, Dark Corner, is about the life of an introvert with anxiety, basically. I wrote the song when I was back home from college for the summer. It’s my first ever song to get professionally mixed and mastered, so that’s kinda cool” said omyügen about his new release.
