The city opens up before us as we fly overhead. Walls of graffiti colour the landscape. A dawning sun warms a cityscape, where high-rises as tall as the sky loom over highways buzzing with rattling engines. All this imagery sets the backdrop, in the form of an official visualizer, to emerging singer Klay Cartier‘s newly released single ‘Good For Nothin’’, out now under Kult Klassic Studios.

From East St. Louis, Illinois, USA, the budding creative has created a mood of stark opposites. Internalised, slightly muffled vocals contrast the sharp and brisk knife-marks made by razor-edged drum beats and squelching bass runs, which carry a melody reminiscent of Childish Gambino’s famous ‘Redbone’.

When describing his approach to the song’s creation, he remarked that he “recorded and worked on this song over a year ago. I knew I wanted to step out of my wheelhouse like I usually do, and it pushed me to make this incredible song. I took aspects from R&B, Pop, Rock, and Latin genres and mashed them together to create this electrifying experience for the listener.”
