The prolific LA-based electronic producer Tristan De Liège has teamed up with emerging jazz band Jambal for their new single, ‘Uncertainties’, released on the 4th of August via Tristan De Liège X Jambal Music. The single, reminiscent of artists like Arms and Sleepers, St Germain, Azymuth, and Ezra Collective, is the first release from their forthcoming album Enterprises of Great Pith and Moment. It received early airplay from the UK National radio station Jazz FM with John Osborne.

Give us a rundown on the new collaboration between your two acts (Tristan De Liège X Jambal) How did it come about?
We met when Jambal’s bassist Maxime was studying Viola da Gamba in Tuscany and Tristan was travelling there. They showed each other’s music, enjoyed it and Tristan eventually offered to collaborate on some tracks. Tristan and Jambal then met for 2 weeks over the summer to work on some tunes that eventually turned into a full-length album.
Who are your greatest influences on this record?
Eberhard Weber, Badbadnotgood, Alfa Mist, Portico Quartet
Walk us through your creative process?
For this album, we arranged, rewrote and rehearsed the tunes together for one week, then played a live show to feel more comfortable with them in the studio and finally recorded the album over five days in Luxembourg. Even though Tristan prepared all the ideas for the tunes beforehand, it really was a collaborative process where everyone involved added his unique character to the music.
What has been the most defining moment of your musical careers?
Jambal has played on several festivals in and outside of Luxembourg including Echterlive!, Messtival and Unifest Liège. They also had the opportunity to open for the great Portico quartet last year. But we’re all very much looking forward to the release of this album and hope you will enjoy it.
If you could go back in time to meet and perform with any musician, who would it be?
I’d want to play with Marvin Gaye because his sense of groove was incredible and he played with amazing musicians, and the energy and creativity of early 70s soul is hugely inspirational to me. (Tristan)
If you weren’t a musician, what would you be?
Music has become such a crucial part of our lives that it has become hard to imagine one without it, but creativity would probably always play a major role even if we hadn’t become musicians.
One piece of musical equipment you can’t live without?
Speaking for myself (Arthur from Jambal) and probably many other musicians, it’s probably my laptop. I do music production and recordings on there and also wrote down sheet music on my laptop so it has become a very essential piece of equipment for me.
