Plain Mister Smith has unveiled his latest single, ‘Dream Gigantic’, through Amelia and Symphonic Records. The release anticipates his forthcoming sophomore album, Bric-a-Brac Attack, set for later this summer. Known initially as the guitarist for the influential darkwave band Moev, the Canadian musician also performs as a cellist with the Vancouver Philharmonic Orchestra. Under the Plain Mister Smith moniker, his work has attracted attention from respected outlets including NPR Music, Wonderland Magazine, CLASH Magazine, NOTION, Under The Radar, Earmilk, METAL, Noctis Mag, and Atwood Mag.
‘Dream Gigantic’ channels Plain Mister Smith’s enduring fascination with Paris, inspired by a visit to the city’s sunlit, tranquil streets following the Olympics. The track explores themes of romantic possibility and longing, anchored by an energetic acoustic drum groove, layered with lush keyboards and a driving bass line that propels its momentum. Vocals from Findlay Brown, whose Americana-folk sensibility complements the soulful, jazz-tinged R&B of JUNO Award-winner Krystle Dos Santos, create a dynamic interplay that adds narrative depth. The single will resonate with listeners attuned to the melodic sensibilities of The Beatles, Leisure, and Tame Impala.
Plain Mister Smith had this to say: “With ‘Dream Gigantic’ I tried to convey that sense of balmy exuberance that happens when it’s the height of summer, and whether you are in a bubbly Paris cafe or a park in Tokyo, the New York Subway or anywhere really, you’re having the time of your life with someone you love.”
