I’MMORTAL released the video for ‘SWAMP MONSTER’ through her Immortality label, timing its arrival with Halloween. Operating between New York and London, she has established a singular presence at the crossroads of electronic production, alt-pop, and shadow-infused aesthetics since her 2023 debut ‘Versace Spaceship’. Her catalog has surpassed half a million Spotify streams and attracted coverage from outlets such as Rolling Stone UK and Electronic Groove. Remixes of ‘KILLED U IN A DREAM’ have come from biskuwi and Droid Bishop, while Das Mörtal reimagined ‘Uncanny Valley’ as a darksynth track supported by NPR Music. Raised in California, I’MMORTAL draws on a background in orchestral violin and musical theatre, channeling classical discipline into detailed, bass-driven electronic production. Her synesthesia informs a cohesive blend of visual and sonic elements, with recurring motifs of mortality, transformation, the interplay of organic and synthetic, femininity, and AAPI identity. Her influences span Sevdaliza, SOPHIE, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey, and Björk.
‘SWAMP MONSTER’ is a restless, experimental cut, driven by a dense electronic bassline and a rhythm section that collides with sharp synth leads and layered textures. I’MMORTAL’s whispered vocals introduce a spectral edge, heightening the track’s dark, uncanny atmosphere and underscoring its Halloween release. Production is handled by I’MMORTAL, with mixing and mastering by Mikaelin Bluespruce, known for work with Mariah Carey, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Blood Orange. The track will resonate with listeners drawn to the avant-pop of SOPHIE, Arca, and umru. The accompanying video, her directorial debut, presents a vivid pink humanoid anglerfish pole dancing in a fluorescent-lit marshland. I’MMORTAL designed the lampshade hat, edited the footage, and staged the transformation of the lamp figure into an anglerfish.
I’MMORTAL had this to say: “‘SWAMP MONSTER’ is the first music video I’ve solo-directed, and making it taught me so much about my own creative process. From crafting the working lampshade hat to editing the video myself, I’m incredibly grateful for the chance to fully immerse myself in the hands-on creation of this video. I thought it would be beautifully bonkers to have a humanoid lamp reveal itself as an anglerfish, a whimsical metaphor for embracing your true self. I envisioned the atmosphere feeling like a liminal, fever-dream version of Alice in Wonderland, and I think the team nailed it!”
