Karen O {Rapt}

The inimitable front woman of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Karen O, is due to release her debut solo album on 9 September – and she has announced a series of intimate live events to go with it.

For the month following the release of ‘Crush Songs’, she will be playing a series of gigs in London, New York, Los Angeles and Berlin – all of them tiny in comparison to her performances with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Karen shared the following statement via press release:

“I’m very pleased to announce that I’ll be performing Crush Songs to some very intimate audiences. If you’re in the mood for love please come join my crush odyssey at these limited engagements. I apologize in advance that these shows are so few but I guess that makes them all the more special if you can make it SO don’t miss out! LUV KO”

For people who can’t make it to those shows, Sofar Sounds (a live music discovery community that organises secret gigs around the globe) will be overseeing an exclusive first listening session of ‘Crush Songs’s deluxe edition vinyl. The sessions will take place in people’s homes and apartments in 21 cities across the world.

In keeping with the intimate nature of these events, the album is described as a series of lo-fi, bedroom recordings a la Karen’s Oscar nominated “The Moon Song.” It will be released through Julian Casablancas’ label, Cult. Karen has so far shared one sombre, lo-fi number ‘Rapt’.
