Tristan De Liège and Jambal impress with dazzling LP ‘Enterprises of Great Pith and Moment’

Tristan De Liège, a prominent electronic producer based in Los Angeles, has joined forces with the emerging jazz ensemble Jambal for their latest album, Enterprises of Great Pith and Moment, which dropped on September 15, 2023, under the label Tristan De Liège X Jambal Music. The album showcases the focus track, ‘The Great Wave,’ along with their previously released singles, ‘Uncertainties‘ and ‘Collisions Of Light.’ These earlier releases earned recognition on prominent Spotify Editorial Playlist State Of Jazz, as well as praise from CLASH Magazine and airplay on UK National radio station Jazz FM, hosted by John Osborne. In addition to this, ‘The Great Wave,’ serving as the album’s focus track, has already received early acclaim from EARMILK.

The album stands as a captivating showcase of musical artistry, a beautiful fusion of Jazz and Downtempo. Every track possesses its own distinct character, yet they all collectively maintain a consistent and soothing sense of improvisation, with the individual brilliance of each instrument clearly evident. Guitars seamlessly intertwine with melancholic keyboard melodies and soaring trumpet crescendos, all while the drumming exhibits intricate and beautifully unpredictable jazz rhythms. The emotional undercurrent of the songs is hard to pinpoint, as tracks effortlessly shift and evoke various sentiments and expressions, resulting in an engrossing and dynamically diverse listening journey.

The artists had this to say on the LP, “This collaboration is very special to us, for many reasons. It is Tristan’s first foray into making a jazz album with a band, and it is Jambal’s first full-length album. Jambal’s European jazz aesthetics meeting Tristan’s inspirations from living in Los Angeles and collaborating with electronic and jazz players there resulted in a beautiful and interesting synergy that was surprising and fruitful – leading to a unique set of tracks that neither would have made on their own. The pieces also have a wide range of emotional expression and narrative, showcasing the full range of both Tristan’s composing approach and Jambal’s performance and interpretation”.
