Nosila is based in South Australia and is a project that’s been in the making for four years. Simon Hatch (Nosila) often creates music around themes of mental health and internal struggles. ‘Halfway’ received support from acclaimed Australian publication scenstr as well as international tastemaker CLASH. It’s a powerful offering that exhibits his vocal range, songwriting skills and production expertise. Although the track is upbeat and feels vibrant, the instrumentation is juxtaposed by heavier, thought-provoking lyrics.
The music video however, has a light and euphoric atmosphere as it was shot in one of Nosila’s favourite locations in the world. The video boasts the phenomenal natural landscapes of Bali as well as the vast expanse of the ocean. In it, Nosila is seen playing guitar and singing with conviction, as the video switches between shots of him and the beauty of the island.
Nosila divulged: “The inspiration for the video came because it’s my favourite place to stay in Bali. It’s a surfers shack (I’m not a surfer) that takes about 5 minutes to walk down to a rock mountain/cliff edge. It’s completely secluded and isolated (monkeys are the biggest issue). It’s one of the best places to feel like you’ve escaped the outside world. The feeling evoked from being there really matched the meaning/feeling behind the song.”
