Tommy Down Breaks Through with Soulful Hit ‘Mrs Blue’ and Preps 2025 EP

London-based singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Tommy Down is gaining recognition with his genre-blending sound, as his 2024 single ‘Mrs Blue’ surpasses 5.7 million streams on Spotify. The tender soul ballad from his album 21st Century Living has earned praise from Radio X and Earmilk, establishing Down as one of the UK’s most promising talents. His upcoming EP, due in late 2025, will feature a bold mix of psychedelic rock and soul, with its lead single ‘Do You Want It All?’ premiered by CLASH Magazine.

Known for emotionally rich vocals and evocative songwriting, Down draws inspiration from Marvin Gaye, Radiohead, David Bowie, and Mitski. A seasoned performer, he has worked with producers like Jeffrey Silverman and Grammy-nominated duo Invisible Men (Jon Shave and Jason Pebworth), and performed at Camden Rocks Festival alongside Frank Turner. His music, including six songs featured in HBO’s Industry, co-created by his brother Mickey Down, reflects his UK-Ghanaian heritage and storytelling prowess.

‘Mrs Blue’, a standout track with minimalist instrumentation and a rhythm reminiscent of Al Green, captures unspoken longing with warmth and vulnerability. Tommy Down had this to say: “The song was produced by Grammy and Brit award winning producer Jon Shave. I brought Jason Pebworth, one of the Invisible Men, a song I wrote about my girlfriend. It felt like a sixth sense and I wrote a song about that feeling. Jason suggested getting a sort of Al Green ‘Lets stay together’ beat for the track, which worked very well.”
